Das weiss doch jeder.&#8220; denken die meisten Leute beim Wort &#8222;Korallen&#8220; an ein Riff irgendwo im tropischen Gebiet eines Meeres. Sie denken eben an die Steine und an die darauf wachsenden &#8222;Blumen&#8220; die so farbenreich auf Bildern zu finden sind.<\/p>\n<p>Tats\u00e4chlich sind Korallen lediglich die winzigen Nesseltiere, die diese Riesigen und atemberaubenden Formationen mit ihren Kolonien Bilden. Nesseltiere sind koloniebildende kleinstlebewesen die sich mehrheitlich von pflanzlichem Plankton ern\u00e4hren. Sowohl Quallen als auch zum Beispiel Anemonen oder Polypen geh\u00f6ren zu dieser sehr einfach gebauten Tierfamilie. Die meisten Vertreter der Nesseltiere zeichnen sich eben durch einen Gelatineartigen K\u00f6rper aus, der mit f\u00fcr sie lebenswichtigen Nesseln ausgestattet ist. Diese sondern Kalk ab und bilden so ihre R\u00f6hren, dies entweder durch ihre Fussscheibe oder die \u00e4usserste Zellschicht der Haut. Die R\u00f6hren bilden f\u00fcr das Individuum einen R\u00fcckzugsort, f\u00fcr die Kolonie jedoch eine St\u00fctze und Schutz. Was wir schlussendlich beim Tauchen sehen, sind diese von unz\u00e4hligen Lebewesen und Pflanzen bewucherten Kalk-Skelette und die in ihnen lebenden Korallen. Nat\u00fcrlich sind Steinkorallen nicht die einzigen: Heute sind \u00fcber 6500 verschiedene Arten bekannt, dar\u00fcber hinaus sind noch 5000 fossile bzw. ausgestorbene Korallenarten bekannt. Alle sind in einer endlosen Systematik erfasst.<\/p>\n<p>Heute sind Korallen durch verschiedenste Faktoren bedroht. Einerseits erliegen sie wegen ihrer Sensibilit\u00e4t den Temperatur-, CO2- und Sauerstoffgehalt\u00e4nderungen im Wasser, die doch mehrheitlich auf den Faktor Mensch zur\u00fcck zu verfolgen sind. Andererseits werden sie direkt mechanisch durch Schleppnetzfischerei oder Schmuckhersteller zerst\u00f6rt. Spezialfall ist das Great Barrier Reef: Mittlerweile ist wegen des enormen Tauchbed\u00fcrfnisses von Touristen eine J\u00e4hrliche Quote \u00fcblich, nach der nur eine bestimmte Anzahl Besucher das Riff betauchen darf, um dieses nicht weiter zu sch\u00e4digen und zu belasten.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Obwohl man sofort denken mag &#8222;Das ist doch einfach.
